Amboseli National Park

Amboseli is the second most popular and most visited park at 392 sq KM in Kenya with excellent opportunities of wildlife viewing. The Park is renowned for its large herds of free-ranging African elephants as well as huge herds of wildebeests, giraffes, African lions, zebras, hyenas, antelopes, monkeys, over 400 species of birds including the pelican, flamingo, ostrich and over 47 species of raptor.

Amboseli terrain makes it easy to view all kinds of game and also taking photographs with stunning backdrop back ground also supported by the surrounding Masai communities particularly after sun rise and sunset. The park provides an opportunity in Africa of getting up close and personal to the free-ranging elephants and other wildlife species.

Park Amboseli can be summarized in a handful of words; big endless sky, far horizons, rocky thorny bush, swampy springs, dry and dusty earth flattened by hundreds of animals. This park offers a unique and breath-taking backdrop for viewing Africa’s great game.

Best Time to Visit Amboseli

Unlike most parks in Kenya, when it comes to Amboseli, we at Escape To Africa advise visits to the park to be scheduled for the months of January and February as well as June through September. And we try as much as possible to avoid the month of April and May, which are the rainy season and sometimes November to December as the park roads tend to be inaccessible.

For all birdwatchers, the months of visit to see migratory birds are October to January.
